There was a young girl who was well-loved by her family.
However, her life turned upside-down when her mother suddenly died.
A woman dressed in black silk grown greeted her.
"I shall be your mother from now on. These two ladies behind me shall be your new older sisters.
She smiled callously.
From being a respected noble, the girl became a lowly servant.
Her so-called family treated her differently.
She does not know her father anymore.
Every day she poured her heart out on her mother's grave.
***
One day, the prince announced that he'll hold a ball to find his one and only princess.
The ladies of the house were very excited.
On the night of the ball, they left the poor girl alone with more chores to do.
Once again, she visited her mother's grave.
Wishing for a change to dance with the prince---
Ravens from nowhere appeared in front of her, carrying a lovely gown in their beaks.
***
It was love at first sight for the prince.
He immediately saw the young girl...looking like a godly princess.
He offered his hand.
She gladly accepted it.
On that night, two entities became one as they shared a flaring passion.
But it wasn't a happy ending yet.
The girl has to return home before her "family" does.
She left the place hurriedly, however she left one of her crystal shoes.
When the two ladies returned, they immediately look for their younger step-sister.
Ruthlessly they showered their anger two the poor girl.
She did nothing more but lie on the dirty floor.
***
At the crack of dawn, the prince gave a royal decree.
Whoever's foot fits this shoe shall be my bride!
***
When the time came for the two ladies to try the shoe---
None of them could wear it.
"It is just too small!
But the lure of wealth and power did not discourage their grit.
The first lady cut off her toes.
The second one cut her heel.
Dripping with red stains, they tried to convince the prince.
Nonetheless, the prince dismissed them.
***
Later, the prince found a young servant-girl at the backyard of the house.
Without hesitation, he lifted her foot.
The shoe fits perfectly.
He hugged her tightly, whispering on her ears.
"I shall never let you run away from me. You are mine now.
Immediately their wedding was settled.
However the little girl's step-sisters could not just accept it.
They plotted something devious.
Asking the future princess to let them walk her to the altar.
***
On the grand wedding day, white flowers were everywhere.
Inside the church, the bride strides towards the altar.
The two ladies were smiling maliciously.
Before they reached the altar, a flock of ravens swooped down.
The birds began attacking the two sisters.
Hurriedly, the prince grabbed his bride.
He ordered his soldiers to drive out the birds and the sisters.
They could mean bad omen for his dearest princess.
***
The once pitiful little girl was now a fortunate princess.
She waved happily outside their carriage.
Her prince, holding her dainty hand closely.
***
Behind the closed doors of an unknown room lie two ladies dressed in black.
Crying for help...crying for their step-sister to come back.
But they could never see her again---
For their eyes were pecked by the ravens...eyes that were scattered on the floor.
In that pitch-dark room, you can somehow see another distasteful colour...
The eternal redness of suffering
